Dear Scribes,
ReplyDeleteIf I could choose anywhere in the world to live for the entire summer, it would be the island of Maui. I visited Maui for the very first time last summer and can't wait to return!
Because I would be there for an entire summer, I would certainly be able to explore the many tropical wonders the Valley Isle has to offer. One of the ways I would spend my days would be snorkeling in the shimmering, satiny waters of the Pacific seeking out my favorite fish, the humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa and the moorish idol. When in Maui last summer, I was stunned by the colorful underwater world. While snorkeling in the warm waters, I felt as peaceful as if I were floating on a cloud!
I would also enjoy hiking, both in the rain forests scented with the sweet smells of mango and passion fruit and on the upcountry trails near Haleakalā National Park.
What a wonderful experience it would be to spend an entire summer in such a perfect paradise!
I look forward to finding out where you would each like to spend an entire summer!
Cheers!

Dear Mrs. Ranney,
ReplyDeleteDuring the summer, I would like to live in New York to be with my grandparents. New York City would be the first place that I would visit. I would see plays and get treats such as pizza. The pizza in New York is as good as going to Disneyland. At my grandparents' house we would play together, swim in pools, and have lots of other summer fun. I always treasure the time that I get to spend in New York every year. However it would be truly exceptional to live there for the summer. New York is my absolute favorite place besides California!
Sincerely,
Royce
@Royce,
DeleteNew York City would definitely be high on my list of choices as well! My daughter Sarah lives in Brooklyn, and I love to spend time with her and in New York. When I visited Sarah last, I took particular pleasure in participating in a step aerobics class that she was teaching at the Brooklyn Y.
Seeing plays in the city is something I enjoy in addition to seeing my daughter, a dancer, perform. The last time I visited NYC, we saw Billy Elliot, which is all about a dancer! I have seen my daughter several times, performing modern dance pieces which always include some kind of special message.
Dining in the many interesting restaurants is another favorite activity of mine. Two particularly tasty meals I remember were at a Turkish restaurant and an Ethiopian one!
Lastly, I'd like to mention my favorite museum in New York, the Lower East Side Tenement Museum. Many people don't know about it, but it is definitely worth a visit. The museum tells the story of immigrant families coming to America. Visitors are able to view restored apartments where these families lived. It is a perfect place to go after you've been to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty! I recommend it to you and your family!
I really enjoyed reading about what you love about New York, Royce, and I'm glad to learn that we have something in common!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Ranney
Dear Mrs. Ranney,
ReplyDeleteDuring the summer, I would like to live in San Diego because of all the sandy beaches. First of all, when we go to the beaches we always bring exciting beach toys. We bring sculpting tools and buckets for sand crabs. We can't forget shovels for enormous sand castles. Second, we borrow jet skis from our friends the Mizrahis. We once drove very far along the beaches where I was able to enjoy the choppy waves and the pretty sand beaches.
I really enjoy going to San Diego with my family.
Sincerely,
Sarah
@Sarah,
DeleteSan Diego is a beautiful and fun-filled place! I love it too. I'd certainly spend quite a bit of my time at the beach, just like you. Enjoying a thrilling ride on a jet-ski would be one of my regular activities.
Have you visited Balboa Park? That's a place I love to spend a lot of time when I'm in San Diego. The Zoo is there as well as some very interesting museums and gardens. My favorite sites to visit in Balboa Park are the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, the Automotive Museum, and the Model Railroad Museum.
If you have visited Balboa Park, I'd love to hear about what you did there!
See you tomorrow!

Dear Mrs.Ranney,
ReplyDeleteIf I had to pick one place in the world to live for a whole summer, I would live at Walker Lake. You get to go fishing every day, and it is so fun to be on the boat and catch so many fish.
Another reason I would like to live there is because my brother is able to play with a bee-bee gun in the wilderness. It is safe to play with that toy in the shooting range, and I would get to play with it the whole trip.
Finally, Walker Lake is one of my favorite places because of the beautiful mountains and fresh air. I really enjoy relaxing there with my family.
Love,
Grace
@Grace,
DeleteWalker Lake sounds like a wonderful place to spend the summer. Beautiful mountains and fresh air really appeal to me as well! I know personally how great the fishing is at Walker Lake because of the tasty trout you brought back for me after your last visit!
I have never been to Walker Lake, but I do often camp near there in the Sierra Nevada Mountains between the towns of Bishop and Mammoth. The lake near our campground is called Rock Creek Lake. Although I've never fished on the lake, I do enjoy kayaking on it! Hiking during the day, then relaxing around the campfire at night with my husband are two of my favorite activities!
Thanks for sharing your summer dream!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Ranney
