  1. Dear Mrs. Ranney, Royce, and Grace,

Some interesting facts on Henry Ford are that he was born on a farm in what is now Dearborn, Michigan on 1863 and lived until 1947. He also was the leading automobile maker in the United States during the early 1900's. I was very excited to comment on Henry Ford because I am familiar with Ford cars but didn't know who invented them.

I really enjoyed this assignment because I learned about an extraordinary person.

    See you next week,
    Sarah

    1. @Sarah,
Your facts are very interesting! Unfortunately, I made a mistake when publishing this post, and the person about whom I wanted you to find facts was John Glenn! It was all my fault, so you don't have to find more facts unless you'd like to!

Good job using World Book to find some facts about Henry Ford. His birthday is coming up this month also, on July 30th!

Looking forward to seeing you next Tuesday. I can't wait to read your Abraham Lincoln story!

      Regards,
      Mrs. Ranney

  2. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

I looked up some facts on John Glenn and I think that you are going to like them. First of all, Glenn was born on July 18, 1921 in Cambridge, Ohio. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942. Last but not least, from 1974 to 1999, John Glenn served as a senator from Ohio.

I had lots of fun getting research on this amazing person. It is very shocking but, Glenn is still alive and he is 90 yrs. old.

    Sincerely,
    Sarah

    1. @Sarah,
Good for you for going back and finding out about John Glenn as well as Henry Ford!

He is quite an admirable person, isn't he? A Marine, an astronaut, and a senator - quite a list of accomplishments!

      See you on Tuesday!

  3. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

I learned some interesting facts about John Glenn on World Book Online.

First, on Feb. 20, 1962, he circled the planet three times in less than five hours. Millions of people watched on television as an Atlas rocket carried the spacecraft Friendship 7 into the sky.

Second, the success of Glenn's flight helped overcome fears that the United States had not made as much progress as the Soviet Union had in space. The Soviet Union sent the first astronauts to space before the US.

If I were an astronaut, I would explore the planet Pluto. It is a "dwarf" planet and that is interesting to me. It used to be the 9th planet in the Solar System. I think I would find lots of different kids of rocks on planet Pluto.

I hope I get to visit Pluto some time in the future.

    Best Wishes,
    Grace

  4. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

Here are some facts about John Glenn:

∆ He circled the earth three times in five hours.

∆ His flight was 4 hours 55 minutes long.

∆ His spacecraft was called Friendship 7.

If I was an astronaut, I would visit the planet Jupiter. It's big, and it has a big red storm. I would like to bring back some rocks for everyone to touch.

    Sincerely,
    Royce.

  5. Dear Royce,

That is really funny because if I was an astronaut I would like to visit Jupiter too!! I like the big red storm, it is enormous, and the rocks there are the most extraordinary rocks in the universe! I would say world but they aren't on this planet so.

I really loved the adjectives you used.

    See you later,
    Sarah
