  1. Dear Mrs. Ranney and Scribes,

On July 4th I went swimming and saw fireworks. First, at about 12:00 my family and I relaxed in my cold swimming pool. Since it was scorching hot, my siblings and I would run back and forth from my house to the pool. After our swimming hours were over, my dad told everyone to shower and get ready for the fireworks. We went to see the fireworks at a place in Calabasas even though they were shooting off at Calabasas High. Watching the fireworks was as amazing as watching a show on Broadway in New York City!!I saw ovals, straight lines, and fireworks that would go halfway up and then explode. It would be unforgettable if they did an American flag!! I can't wait until the next 4th of July!!!

    Sydney

  2. Dear Mrs. Ranney and Scribes,

I had a lot of fun this Fourth of July! I went to my parents friend’s house, and we went swimming. At night the pool lights made the water look green, blue, and pink. We had great barbecue drumsticks, steak, and hot dogs. For dessert we had cookies, red velvet bunt cake, and my favorite chocolate bunt cake.

    Sincerely,
    Ben

  3. Dear Summer Scribes

I had a lot of fun on July 4th at my friends David and Ryan's house. They invited me to have a party at their house for 4th of July. The first thing we did was jump in the pool and play on their new four seated raft. The raft is like a giant life saver with a net in the middle so you don't sink through. Last of all we saw the fire works. After all that waiting we heard the fire works and told everybody that they started. They were loud, some of them even sounded like TNT!!!

    Sincerely,
    Corey

  4. Dear Ben,

It must've been a very exciting night.
I absolutely love going night swimming, especially on a special holiday. BBQ drumsticks, steak, and hot dogs sound really delicious right now. Out of all the desserts you had, mine would be the chocolate bunt cake too! Yum!

    Sincerely,
    Sydney

  5. Dear Scribes,
I enjoyed a wonderful 4th of July as well. Like many family get-togethers, there was a great picnic. My family and I went over to Warner Center Park, where we shared some refreshing salads, mouth-watering fruits, and tasty zucchini bread! While we ate, we listened to a concert of popular tunes and patriotic music.

After the sun finally set, it was time for the fireworks! What an exciting show! Some were so bright they lit up the entire sky. Others spun like sparkling corkscrews. Still others shot up with such a loud bang that they echoed between the buildings! One of my favorite parts of the show was that as the fireworks blasted, patriotic music played, as well as excerpts from speeches by famous Americans like John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr.

Thousands of people attended the show, so walking back to our car was a bit challenging. All in all, it was a wonderful July 4th!

@Sydney, swimming on 4th of July is something I would have enjoyed. Your simile comparing the fireworks to a Broadway show is a great one!

@Ben, your meal sounds delicious, and I love the description of the lights on the water. How about adding a simile to go with that?

@Corey, I am really impressed-two similes! They are both terrific. I think my favorite is the one comparing raft to a lifesaver.

Keep up the great work, everyone!
    See you Tuesday.
    Best,
    Mrs. Ranney

  6. Dear Ben,
You must have had a lot of fun your parents' friend's house. Who was invited to the party? Did you see any fire works, or even light off any?!?

    Corey
