Why?

  1. Dear Mrs. Ranney and Scribes,

If I could go anywhere in the world I would go to the Virgin Islands. Last year I discovered that I had family there and I am very excited to meet them! There are so many things that I want to do when I get to the Virgin Islands. Some of the things I am thinking of are swimming with the dolphins, kayaking, and going on a hike with my family I just met. The first thing that I would do when I get there is get on my swim suit because the water is warm and clear as a glass bowl and I can't wait to get in it. In the Virgin Islands another very exciting thing I can do is relax on the beach in the sand and I plan on doing a lot of that!

  2. Dear Mrs. Ranney and Scribes,

If I could live anywhere for and entire summer, I would want to stay in Washington D.C. I like how you can go anywhere without needing to sit in a car. You can take the metro, or you could just walk. Also, in Washington D.C there are stands that sell my favorite ice cream. The stands also carry hot dogs and hamburgers.

    Sincerely,
    Ben

  3. Dear Mrs. Ranney and Scribes,

If I could live anywhere in the world for the whole summer I would choose to live in Houston, Texas. Last year, I went and the sights, food, and people were amazing. Even though it was as hot as the summer sun, it was worth the heat. When I go I would like go to The House of Blues, Bear Creek Park, and the stadium where the Houston Dynamo play. It would be unforgettable to live in Houston for the whole summer.

    Sincerely,
    Sydney

  4. @Sydney,

Houston, Texas sounds like a great place to live because the weather would always be sunny. Also, I have a question. What sport do the Huston Dynamo play, and is it a professional team or not?

    Sincerely,
    Ben

  5. Dear Ben,

The Houston Dynamo plays soccer and are in the MLS (Major League Soccer). I have heard that the team plays at a small high school and they are trying building a new stadium. The project should be finished in 2012.

    Sincerely,
    Sydney

  6. Dear summer Scribes,

If I were to go somewhere for the summer, I'd choose Hawaii. The reason I chose Hawaii, because the ocean is the warmest I've felt. Another reason I like it there is because I like the salty air breeze that we don”t get back in LA. The only reason I don't like it, is because it take's such a long time to get there. I remember one of the times I went, my favorite thing to do was boogie board. Hopefully I can go there again some time.

  7. Aloha Scribes!

Now that I've just returned from my trip to Maui, I have discovered where I would spend an entire summer! Yes, you guessed it, Maui!

Like Corey, I really loved the warm water and the balmy ocean breeze. I absolutely loved snorkeling, which I had never before experienced. I was amazed by the beautiful, colorful tropical fish and sea turtles!

Another activity I especially enjoyed was a helicopter tour over west Maui and the nearby island of Molokai. Our pilot flew right near spectacular waterfalls, and the view of the sea cliffs of Molokai took my breath away!

A real highlight of the trip was traveling to Haleakala Crater to view the sunrise. Mr. Ranney and I had to leave our condo at 3 A.M., but the sight we saw as the sun came up made getting up so early worth it! As the sun was rising, the clouds that filled the crater glowed like pure gold!

Maui has such a diversity of plant life, animal life, and geography that I could definitely see myself spending an entire summer there!

@Gigi, the Virgin Islands sound wonderful. the activities you described are all things I enjoy as well! Your simile about the clear water is excellent!

@Ben, Washington D. C., our national capital, is certainly a place I could spend an entire summer as well. What is your favorite place to visit there? Mine was the White House. What is that favorite ice cream that you like to get at the stands?

@Sydney, Houston sounds like an exciting place! I have visited Texas but never Houston. I'd like to hear more about Bear Creek Park.

@Corey, you and I definitely have something in common, since Hawaii is the place I selected as well! Which islands have you visited? Maui is the only one I've been to, but I hope to visit others in the future!

    See you all soon!
    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Ranney

  8. @ Mrs. Ranney,

My favorite attraction in Washington D.C is Ford's Theater! My dad wrote a play that recently ended there. Also I saw the coat Lincoln wore on the night he got assassinated. Another thing that is displayed there is the gun that James W. Booth used to kill the president. My favorite ice cream is the Fudge Bomb Pop. It is chocolate, banana, and then more chocolate.

    Sincerely,
    Ben

  9. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

So far I've only visited Oahu twice. Our favorite place to go was Sunset Beach because of the sand, clean and warm water, and the friendly public. I'd love to go to Maui also! :)

    From,
    Corey
