  1. Dear Scribes,
One of my favorite summer time activities is hiking on various trails in the local mountains. When trekking up a tree-lined trail, I am usually with a close friend or family member. In Malibu Canyon near Tapia Park is a trail head that leads up to a crest where I can look out at the crystal blue waters of the Pacific. Trails like that one are the ones I enjoy most. Getting up high where there is a scenic view really gives me a thrill! This week I have already hiked twice in Malibu Creek State Park, and I can't wait to tramp on another nearby trail!

    Sincerely,

  2. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

On a hot summer day, I like to go surfing. My family and I usually go to Zuma Beach. On Monday, I started my first surf camp. You don’t have just to surf, you can boogie board, swim, or play beach games. When I stand up on the foam surfboard, I feel like I am a bird, just realesaed from a cage. My surf camp is fun and well organized. I met new friends, met the instructors, and most of all had a great time surfing. Tomorrow (Wednesday) I am going again. Wish me luck!!!

    Sincerely,
    Sydney

  3. Dear Mrs. Ranney and Scribes,

During the summer, I love to make smoothies! It is amazing how many different kinds you can make. For example you could make banana, strawberry, or strawberry and banana. My favorite kind is a mixture of strawberry, banana, and blueberry! Sitting on the couch relaxing with a smoothie is awesome! Sometimes I put granola in my smoothies. It gives it a small crunch that I find extremely delicious.

    From,
    Ben

  4. Dear Ben,

That's really cool that you like to make smoothies. Smoothies are extremely fun to make because there are so many different combinations. My absolute favorite combination is frozen mango, frozen pineapple, and some yogurt. I love to have smoothies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's cool that you like to make smoothies too!!!

    Sincerely,
    Sydney

  5. Dear Sydney,

Surfing sounds like a lot of fun! I have never surfed and would like to try it. However, I love to boogie board! Boogie boarding is pretty much surfing, but you don't stand up. You find a big wave and lay on your stomach. Then let the wave do the rest!

    Sincerely,
    Ben

  6. Dear Scribes,
I was so interested to read about your great summer time activities.

@Sydney, I think it's amazing that you're learning how to surf. You are quite an adventurous girl! I loved your simile comparing riding on the surfboard to a bird being released from its cage! Similes are a terrific way to make your writing more interesting!

@Ben, it sounds like you have a very healthy way to cool off during the summer. Your smoothies sound delicious, especially the extra crunch of granola! Boogie boarding sounds like a great way to cool off too!

    Keep up the great writing!

    Mrs. Ranney
